I’m looking for a HR type of policy or process which incorporates sociocratic values, in an educational setting.
We’re a tiny organisation based in Bristol, providing foundational courses for adults in Practical Sustainability and Permaculture, contracting in 48+ tutors each year. We are transitioning away from a hierarchical, critically under-resourced structure towards shared governance in the form of sociocracy. We currently have 2 active members of staff, and looking to recruit 2-3 additional members of staff. Including somebody overseeing HR. We would love to see a version of HR policy and procedure from a sociocratic organistion, which safeguards staff who are working to safeguard students at the same time!

The name that popped into my head was The New School - a school in South London governed with sociocratic principles. They haven’t shared anything on the library but might be a good one to approach if there’s any reflections they have around this? I know they’ve done some research with UCL recently which may also shed some light, though I think it focuses more specifically on student outcomes as a result of sociocracy, as opposed to staff experience.
On a personal level, am super interested in how we can incorporate more care-centred/sociocratic ways of working within settings where there’s more rigid structures that need to be adhered to (ie schools), so am keen to hear how you get on with this!
