Bereavement or Compassionate Leave Policy?

I’m looking for a Bereavement or Compassionate Leave Policy which is flexible and aims to support balancing the resources of the organisation with the needs of the individual, something which recognises the personal and individual experience of grief, culture and diversity, incorporates supporting employees in practical and reasonable ways, and covers the topics of; amount of leave, additional time off, paid and unpaid leave, notice, and return to work. Additional topics we might want to consider but aren’t mentioned here would also be welcome.

My organisation focuses on organising volunteer-led and community-led change in our local food system to respond to the Climate Crisis. We have more than 60 people who actively volunteer with us. We have a flat structure and 8 active staff; 7 of whom work part-time on fixed-term, short-term projects and 1 core staff member who works full-time. Our annual turnover is 100k-300k.

Hi @laura - thanks for sharing the question and welcome to the community!

This Campaign Against Arms Trade policy definitely does some of what you’re looking for? Carer’s, compassionate bereavement and parental leave | RadHR

There might be elements of this rolled into more general leave policies in the library as well: Policy Library | RadHR

Particularly interested in the cultural aspects of grief question, because it is something that is treated so differently in different cultural contexts and not aware of how groups have handled this in their policies. Anything you find and want to share would be welcome here!
