We’ve had some really positive group work exploring our policy and practice on sexual (and non-sexual harassment). A key identified need is for training in the following areas:
Training for those who hold management responsibility in responding to reports of sexual or other forms of harrassment. This is mostly about gaining confidence, especially around when things can be handled informally and when they need to be escalated.
Training for all staff in recognising and responding to sexual and non-sexual harrassment. This will include guidance on our internal processes, but we want some outside expertise, particularly in handling people who may be in a distressed state but are behaving in an unacceptable way.
Training in restorative approaches to repairing relationships within the team
I appreciate that this is a lot, but wondering if anyone in this lovely community can recommend an organisation, independent trainer or introductory resources to help us get started.
Hi @auntieliz, I’m looking at this too. I don’t have any specific suggestions - I’m currently exploring e-learning options - but if you’d be up for chatting about it I’d find that useful!
Thanks @EmmaK It seems there is a gap in provision so i wonder if it might be something that needs to be commissioned? We could put a bit of money into that, as long as we actually get the training ourselves as part of the deal. Might others be in a position to join up???
Yes, it’s frustrating that even though the duty to prevent sexual harassment has been with us for a while now, there’s not loads out there! We’ve just signed up to HR Inform and they do have training materials which we can download and adapt, so I think we will go down that route, but joining up to commission something does sound like a good idea!
